Patna: The special vigilance unit (SVU) on Wednesday claimed to have unearthed movable disproportionate assets (DA), including cash and jewellery, worth Rs 2.71 crore of an assistant engineer of Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO), Kameshwar Prasad Singh. The value of his immovable properties including flats is yet to be assessed.
An FIR against Singh was lodged with the SVU on August 3, following which it started procuring asset details of Singh.
SVU IG Ratan Sanjay Katiyar said, “Singh in his asset declaration to the state government did not mention the details of five lockers rented in his name, his wife Manju Singh, a government schoolteacher, his son, daughter-in-law and daughter with three branches of SBI and HDFC Bank in Patna.” Singh handed over his locker keys to the SVU sleuths while to break open the rest four lockers, SVU had to procure search warrants from a court. All the searches conducted by the SVU over the past few days were videographed.
“The family did not cooperate with the police in search. Initially, Manju Singh excused herself on medical ground and his daughter also refused to meet the police team which went to Mumbai. ... Nothing objectionable was found from Singh’s locker but a huge amount of cash and jewellery was found from the rest four lockers,” added Katiyar.
The sleuths found gold jewellery worth around Rs 1.39 crore from the bank lockers and Singh’s residence. Two gold bricks worth around Rs 61 lakh were recovered from the locker of Singh’s daughter, Ekta Priyadarshinee. One of the gold necklaces found from the lockers is worth Rs 13 lakh.
Singh’s son, Abhishek Anand is an IRS officer of 2011 batch while daughter-in-law Nidhi Singh is a housewife. His three-storied house on a three-kattha plot on road number 14 at Rajivnagar has household items worth around Rs. 42.89 lakh, including eight air conditioners.
Katiyar said, “Singh hails from village Kohargarh in Saran district. We have procured documents of an ITI in his father’s name located at Ekma, in which Manju Singh is a director. Two flats owned by him at Ghaziabad and Kidwaipuri in Patna are yet to be evaluated,” The sleuths have found post office deposits of around Rs 27.55 lakh.
He added, “We have assessed that the couple in their 35 years of service had legal earnings of around Rs. 1.60 crore and their savings should be around Rs. 73 lakh.
